Journal 7: MY PLN

Definition
A PLN is a Personal Learning Network.  It is something that you create to learn from, connect with, gather information or resources, create with, and share what you’ve learned.  The benefit of having a PLN is to share information and connect with teachers from around the globe.  It is something that one has to work on to build, but, with painstaking effort, your efforts will come to fruition when you finally have people respond to your posts.  The advantage of having a PLN is the ability to share and get information from numerous sources instantly.  Connecting with educators you will never meet is a unique feature, but, all share a common goal.  Twitter, Diigo, Edmodo, and Blogger are avenues in which these conversations take place.  In the education field, teachers and administrators alike share and collaborate on projects or share information using any of the above mentioned avenues.

Summary
I did participate in #edchat that was done live at 4:00 p. m. in class before class began.  The topic of the discussion was whether to plan long-term or to wait till the semester gets underway to start planning.  The veteran teachers along with new teachers all contributed what worked for them and shared their thoughts and ideas.  It was my first time participating on twitting back and forth with people as far as Australia, Canada, and throughout the U. S.  The screen moves really fast and you got to keep up with the pace of the discussion.  Here is how it works.  Someone posts a question and everyone gets to answer or make comments.  They can either agree or disagree with what others are saying.

Reflections
The experience of twitting is something new for me and something I would continue to use and expand upon.  The first time twitter was kind of hard to follow because of the pace of the discussion.  I like twitting because it is easy to logon and easy to communicate.  One needs to create an account to get started.  Once this is done, he/she can start following others who are looking for a particular topic.  You can have no more than 140 characters to each post.  Currently I am following other two students from class and also the professor.  But, I also follow those who follow them, making my search a very fruitful one.
